Hi, I’m Ian Sung.
I’m an IT professional working with automation, scripting, and workflow optimization — and I’ve been using AI tools daily for the past two years.
I started The AI Tool Spot because I kept running into the same problem: there were hundreds of AI tool reviews online, but almost none of them answered the question I actually needed answered — does this tool make a real difference in how you work every day, or is it just impressive in a demo?
Two years of daily use across blogging, automation projects and professional workflows gave me a clear picture of which tools genuinely deliver — for the handful I actually live in. For everything else, the honest answer is that I have not run it for months, and saying otherwise would make this site exactly the kind of review site I started it to avoid. So every review here states which of the two it is.
In my own workflow, the tools that stuck are the ones that removed a step rather than adding one — mostly in writing, research and repetitive tasks. That is a smaller claim than most AI sites make, and it is the one I can actually stand behind.
What I Actually Use AI Tools For
I’m not a casual observer of AI tools — I use them every day across a wide range of real tasks:
- Professional work — using AI to streamline IT workflows, automate repetitive processes, and manage complex projects more efficiently
- Automation — building automation scripts and programs to eliminate manual tasks, including automated systems and workflow tools
- Language learning — using AI tools to accelerate language study, including preparing for professional language certifications
- Image creation — generating and editing visual content using AI image tools across multiple projects
- Research and writing — using AI daily for information gathering, content drafting, and professional communication
How I Test AI Tools
Not every tool on this site gets the same treatment, and pretending otherwise is the most common lie in this genre. Here is the actual split.
Tools I actually use: ChatGPT, Claude and Google Gemini. These three are part of my daily work — writing, planning, research and coding help. Reviews of these draw on real everyday use, and the screenshots come from my own accounts. If a tool does not hold up under everyday conditions, that shows up in the review.
Everything else: checked, then researched. For tools outside those three I set up a free-plan account where one exists, capture what it actually does, and build the rest of the review from the vendor’s own documentation and a wide read of verified user reviews on G2, Trustpilot and Reddit. Where a tool is paid-only, I say so and do not pretend to have subscribed.
Side-by-side comparisons, where I can make them. When I say Claude produces better long-form writing than ChatGPT, that comes from running both on the same brief. I do not stage comparisons between tools I have not run — if you see a comparison table here with “Not tested” in it, that is why.
Honest about limitations. Every tool has weaknesses. I include them — even when a tool is one I use regularly and genuinely recommend.
This site covers more than 50 AI tools across writing, productivity, image generation, coding and research. Three of them I use daily. The rest I have checked, read widely about, and written up as honestly as that allows — and each review tells you which bucket it is in, up front.

Most AI tool websites list features. I focus on one thing: whether a tool actually improves your workflow past the first week — and on being clear about how much I can personally vouch for that in each case.

Reviews are updated as pricing and features change — pricing in particular, since most AI tools have changed theirs at least once in the past year.
